Eldred Earl Matson

In loving memory

May 29, 1930 ~ October 19, 2015

Eldred Earl "Bill" "Keys" Matson was born May 29, 1930 at Seattle General Hospital. Growing up in Seattle, he graduated from West Seattle High School. He met the love of his life Carol Lois Hanson in the fall of 1950, while she was working at the White Center Theatre. They married June 14, 1952, the very same day he graduated from the University of Washington and was commissioned to serve in the US Navy.

He managed aeronautics' manu-facturing companies for more than 40 years.

Bill enjoyed life to the fullest; as a young father he coached his sons little league teams and at the age of 65 he began playing with a men's senior softball league, winning several world championships. Bill was active on the team until early 2015.

Bill's pick-up truck was always ready to help family, friends and neighbors remove fallen trees and ready wood for the winter. In 2009 he began volunteering with the Patriot Guard Riders until he became ill in 2014. He served in many capacities as an active member at Zion Lutheran, Kent, WA and entertained many campsites with Bear Herman stories. Bill also enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, camping and hunting, especially with his boys. He went out of his way to attend all of his granddaughter's activities, Swimming, Ballet, Cross Country, Soccer which he enjoyed to varying degrees...but he was there.

Bill died peacefully at home with his beloved bride and family in Kent, WA, Monday, October 19, 2015. He passed from cancer.

Bill is survived by Carol, his loyal wife of 63 years. Their loving sons Jeffery, Scott, Roger, and Matthew; along with their daughters-in-law: Doris, Val, Susie and Diane, granddaughters, Lisa, Laura, Erika and Katie. His older brother Elmer (wife Polly), and sisters-in-law Monica, Joan, and Mary Hanson. Bill is also mourned by a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, god-children, family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents: (father) Elmer Melvin Matson, Sr. and (mother) Catherine Lorraine (Eldred) Matson, brothers-in-law Harlan, Douglas and Philip Hanson.

An 11:00 AM memorial is scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Zion Lutheran, Kent, WA with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Zion Lutheran Church, 25105 132nd Ave. S.E., Kent, WA 98032 or to the Patriot Guard Riders of Washington, 29212 SE 371st St., Enumclaw, WA 98022.

Condolences can be sent to the family and they would like to thank the Hospice Caregivers, loving friends and family members for their love and their prayers.
